FOIL3D™ and SculptedUV™ allows for short or long runs, with faster turnaround and complete design flexibility. It supports variable data personalization, letting each piece feature unique names or special enhancements. The digital process also enables full printed prototypes, complete with the intended enhancements, so designs can be reviewed and approved before committing to a full production run. Beyond technical, production and cost differences, lets not forget the appearance aspect. Traditional hot foiling uses a custom-made metal die that’s heated and pressed onto foil film, transferring the foil onto the paper. The result is a smooth, metallic finish with a crisp, indented impression where the die makes contact. FOIL3D™ works by applying a specially formulated polymer to the desired areas and curing it in place with UV light. The polymer is then activated to hold foil where it’s needed, and a final UV cure locks in a durable, scratch-resistant finish. This allows for a precise, raised foil effect with stunning results. Traditional Spot UV involves applying a liquid UV coating to specific areas of a printed piece using a metal plate or stencil. The coated areas are then exposed to UV light, which cures the coating into a glossy, raised or smooth finish. This effect is only achieved with matte or satin paper stocks. SculptedUV™ uses a digital inkjet process to apply a clear, UV-curable polymer directly onto printed sheets, creating tactile effects such as raised textures and patterns. This effect creates a raised, glossy appearance that can be paired with a multitude of powder coatings and laminates.

Absolutely! Using both finishes together allows for layered effects, highlighting logos, artwork, or key details with both shine and texture. You can also achieve creative effects like foil-on-foil layering, and pair multiple foil colors on the same piece.

The polymer-based finishes are designed to be long-lasting, resistant to scuffs and handling, and maintain their premium look over time. However they can be susceptible to extreme temperatures, especially heat. It's important you store your FOIL3D™ and SculptedUV™ pieces in room temperature for the best and longest lasting quality!

We offer a wide selection of foil shades and finishes, including shiny, matte, and holographic options. Foil colors are determined by our suppliers’ available stock, so certain shades may be discontinued over time based on demand. While custom foil colors are not available at this time, our team is happy to guide you in selecting the most suitable option to achieve the desired look for your project.
